We had the privilege of raising our three sons in a community where "safe spaces" abounded. Unfortunately, this is not the case for many families in San Juan de Lurigancho, Peru where few "safe spaces" exist. We were heartbroken to learn that many of the children become the victims of violence in their own home and have little resources or alternatives.
This summer we have the privilege of being part of the Trek for Hope Peru 2011 team that will help create "safe spaces" for these children and their families through the Oikos Project. The Oikos Project will focus on building strong relationships from a biblical perspective as well as strengthening resources within the home and family.
We have two challenges ahead of us. We hope you will join us on our first challenge of raising $10,000 in the next 30 days that will go towards creating a "safe space" such as a Community Center, Library, Children's Play Area or Sports Court. The second challenge will be a 4 Day Trek to Machu Picchu in the tradition of Trek for Hope.
