A few years ago, I was asked to join a team traveling to Peru with Food for the Hungry. I wasn’t able to go at that time, but a seed was planted and my interest was stirred. A series of events and people have crossed my path since that initial invitation and I began to seriously consider how I could participate, here or abroad.
Late last year, I was invited to join a group of 14 people who will be traveling to Peru to work with Food for the Hungry in establishing Oikos Schools in the hills of San Juan de Lurigancho. We have been told domestic violence is one of the most devastating issues facing the people of Peru. The Oikos Schools are places where families will be able to develop skills in dealing and preventing domestic violence. After prayer and confirmation from family and friends, I accepted the invitation to join Team Peru with the focus being the prevention against domestic violence. We will be in Peru August 30th – September 10th, 2011
In April it became a reality. My Pilates Studio hosted a fund raiser with all proceeds going to the Oikos Schools. Thanks to those who volunteered their time in organizing, teaching and participating in Pilates classes, $1,500.00 was raised. WOW!
My goal is to raise $5,000.00 for this project. We have made a great start, but we aren’t there yet. I would like to invite you to join with me and Team Peru, in financial and/or prayer support. Thank you for bringing hope and healing to these families.
“Thanks be to God, who always leads us in triumph in You and through us spreads everywhere the fragrance of the knowledge of You.” II Corinthians 2:14
