Hi Friends and Family, 

I am partnering with Capoeira Arts Foundation and raising money for 2018 Capoeira Arts Foundation Roda-thon. 

I discovered capoeira in Santa Cruz, CA, in 2016 out of a mild curiosity. Some elements of this Afro-Brazilian martial art were introduced during a dance workshop in which I was enrolled, which led me to shyly explore a capoeira class being offered regularly in my area. From the first class, I was hooked. The physicality of the fight, the mesmerizing acrobatics, the grace and cunning of the players, the music, the Portuguese, the community. My love of capoeira grew exponentially as I came to wholeheartedly embrace the joy and empowerment I felt whenever our crew would push ourselves physically, sing together, and support each other. 

That familial support and love has wide branches, and has followed me to my new home on the Big Island of Hawaii. I have had an instant "cap-ohana" who've welcomed me with open arms and continue to provide growth opportunities in both my capoeira training and my personal development. 

It is a privilege to regularly experience all of the beauty capoeira has brought to my life, and I want to give back to my flagship school by participating in this year's Roda-thon and raising funds for UCA Berkeley. A major grant was cut, and without some financial support, their doors for personal empowerment, cultural celebration, and community could close. If there is any gift you can give, any size, would be so much appreciated. 

Agua de Beber's Roda-thon will take place on July 14 at the Hawaiian Cultural Center of Hamakua, from 12:30 - 2:30. The more you pledge, the more games I play! Come check us out if can!
