Hi Friends and Family,

I am partnering with Capoeira Arts Foundation and raising money for 2018 Capoeira Arts Foundation Roda-thon. Capoeira is a Brazilian martial art that is a mix of dance, street fighting and martial arts. I have been a capoeirista for almost a year and I can’t image my life without it. I love learning about Brazilian and Capoeira culture, everyone at UCA Berkeley is very welcoming. Playing Capoeira makes me feel strong and confident.

I love my mestres at UCA Berkeley. Contramestre Pincel teaches in a way that is both informative and fun. I have enjoyed learning from Mestra Suelly because she helps me get stronger by making me practice again and again and Mestre Recruta can be funny or he can be strict and I like teachers like that.

Now, UCA Berkeley is facing a financial crisis with UCA’s non-profit organization’s sudden loss of a $60,000 operating grant from a foundation that supported Capoeira Arts Foundation (CAF) for 15 years. This grant helped us sustain Projeto Kirimurê; provide scholarships for youth and adults; pick up the slack when monthly revenues swung low; and supplement batizados or projects as needed. This grant represented our “safety net” to supplement revenue shortfalls.

I would feel very sad if I could not play capoeira at UCA Berkeley because I love it so much. I am a capoeirista through and through. Please donate to help keep my school stay open, because it’s really important to me. The school also helps a lot of kids that don’t have very much money or food or clothes here in Berkeley and in Brazil.
