About This Campaign

The Boar's Head Brigade will host the 7th Annual Courageous Challenge at UNG Dahlonega on September 17th. This is the third year the Cadets of North Georgia have conducted the Challenge all for the purpose of raising awareness and funds to address the issue of suicide.

In 2020 the Cadets set a Courageous Challenge record and then broke it in 2021. In the past two events they have raised more than $37,000 to provide intervention training throughout the North Georgia region. Our goal for the 2022 Courageous Challenge is $25,000. The need has never been greater. North Georgia's 9th Congressional District has for the past several years had the highest suicide rate in the state.

Funds from the Courageous Challenge underwrite the Intervene Challenge, AFM's world class training in suicide intervention and the AFM Crisis Response Team which has conducted more than 2,000 successful suicide interventions since 2012.

Our theme for this year's challenge is "Not on My Watch." The UNG family has lost many alumni to suicide over the past few years and a cadet three days before graduation 2021. It was a challenging day for the Cadets and all who knew Blake Oviedo. On graduation day I spoke with a couple hundred Cadets training for NCO leadership, and I said, "this is not a drill". That phrase became our theme for the 2021 Challenge. With our 2022 theme - "Not on My Watch" we are declaring that we will do everything in our power to stop the epidemic of suicide. The Cadets will do their part in knocking out thousands of push ups on Push Day.
