Dear Friends and Family,
I wanted to share some exciting news with you! Eastside Christian Church has planned a global compassion trip for this coming summer and I will be serving as part of the team for my 5th trip! I will be traveling to Kenya, Africa on June 19th where we will be meeting the needs of the MOHI schools and their communities. I have always felt a strong desire to be a part of this trip ever since being baptized at Eastside in October of 2013; I dove right into Kenya because I’ve felt called to go to Africa ever since I was a little girl. I went every year since my first trip in 2014, but didn’t really discover my WHY until my 2017 trip. That summer I got to see the resource room MOHI created at one of the schools in the slums for kiddos with special needs. In this resource room there were at the time 2 kiddos with disabilities and their sweet Mommas. They taught the mothers how to care for their children with special needs and paid them to be there at the school. Two things in which are totally out of the norm of that culture. Unfortunately, children with special needs are highly frowned upon in Kenya, even more so than here in America. They are seen as monsters and not people. Their mothers are usually disowned by the Father because he immediately moves on to new different family that is "normal." Mom is forced to leave her kiddo with special needs at home in the slums by themselves all day while she tries to find work and somehow get her other kids to and from school and fed, all by herself. The kiddo never receives any treatment for their needs to help them reach their true full potential and their family is frowned upon by the community. For the school to have a resource room for these families allows so much more than what has just begun with only these two kids. One of those kids just so happened to be a kid I met during home visits on my 2015 trip. My heart is on fire for that resource room and that population. I’ve been doing a ton of thinking and praying and I decided to officially make this my project last summer. I had the absolute privilege of raising up other leaders who are also passionate in this field as well. MOHI entrusted us to hold a one day training for 52 families. I was surprised to see a Dad in our training as well!! Big things are beginning to happen in this community for these sweet kiddos. This summer I am so excited to announce that I have the absolute honor and privilege to hold a training for 4 days for 100+ families!! God has been so faithful to this ministry and I am so excited to see where it goes!
MY VISION: God has instilled in my heart to partner with MOHI in the continual growth of that resource room. It is on the founders’ heart to eventually open up a school specifically for kiddos with special needs! Once that’s established, I would like it to grow into The Special Education Department, just like we have here in America... but better!! Education and Therapy all in one! My prayer is that I can contribute to our efforts by bringing this vision to life and changing the way Kenya views people with special needs. I feel blessed to continuously have this incredible opportunity to help others and know there is a lot of work ahead as we begin to prepare. I could use your help!
Each team member has been entrusted with raising an equal share of the total cost to send us. The amount I must personally raise is $1,500 and it is due by June 16th. Although $1,500 is my "goal" to cover the costs of my trip, I would ideally like to raise much more than that to enhance the vision I started. My personal goal is to raise $1,000 extra to bless the Missions of Hope International staff to continue this exciting project. If you wish to partner with me in this ministry please click on the “GIVE NOW” button to donate. (There is an option to cover the cost of the credit card fee that you can opt out of if you prefer.) Or if you prefer to give a check or cash donation you can make your check payable to “Eastside Christian Church” and note my name and "Kenya-Mathare 2019" in the memo line and mail/bring it to the address below. Contributions to our project are tax-deductible. You're very important to me. Thank you for considering being a part of my team. If you have any questions I’d love the opportunity to tell you more so just call, text or email me!
God Bless You,
