About This Campaign

On Sunday May 5, 2024, the Stroke Awareness Foundation (SAF) will host its 11th Annual Fight Stroke Walk at the San Jose Municipal Rose Garden. This 5k (3 mile) walk brings together stroke survivors, their families, friends and caregivers to raise money to fight stroke through public education and awareness efforts.

Since 2012, our Walk has hosted over 6,000 walkers and grew to include over 80 sponsors. Thanks to your generosity, we’ve raised over $5,500,000 to educate Santa Clara County citizens on signs and symptoms of stroke and most importantly - what to do in the event of a stroke emergency.

All funds raised for this event stay locally to improve stroke education in Santa Clara County. SAF has implemented an aggressive public outreach targeting Santa Clara County residents.

We Reach Santa Clara County Residents Via:

Free Lifesaving Stroke App that educates the public on signs and symptoms of a stroke, quickly locates the nearest Certified Stroke Center anywhere in the US, and expedites a 911 call with the ability to alert your emergency contacts of your emergency as well as your GPS location. Now Available In English, Spanish, Vietnamese and Mandarin languages.
Educational Material via print and digital media, radio, back of the busses, movie theaters and outdoor promotion.
Thoughtful Spanish, Vietnamese and Mandarin Language Multimedia Campaigns
Social Media sites connecting with thousands of stroke survivors and families locally, nationwide and internationally
Speaking Engagements to stroke survivor groups, retirement communities, service groups, churches, nursing homes, community centers, outdoor markets, festivals, shopping centers, schools, businesses, and hospitals

In 2022, SAF focused on educating our community, particularly the Chinese and Vietnamese population on signs of stroke, stroke risk factors and what to do for the best outcome in a stroke emergency.

SAF website had nearly 70,000 visitors with over 100,000 pageviews
The “lifesaving” SAF App gained 1,850 users to total 15,000
SAF reached 123,000 Facebook users with over 12,300 likes
SAF Ambassador videos had nearly
17,000 views in 6 top languages most prevalent in SCC
Our Mandarin and Vietnamese public outreach campaign served nearly 27 million impressions and reached an estimated 1.5M Vietnamese and Mandarin speaking radio listeners
Completed Translations: SAF App—now in 4 languages and Website stroke educational material in 6 languages

Why We Need You

An average of 3,000 cases of stroke are reported to the Santa Clara County hospitals each year and many more go unreported
Less than 50% of Ischemic Stroke Patients in Santa Clara County are arriving to a Stroke Center in time for treatment, < 4.5 hours from the onset of symptoms
Less than 50% of stroke victims arrive at the hospital via ambulance – risking delay to meet the time window for life saving treatment
