Nepal 2018 - Lauren Matt

Trekking Hope to His people Learn More

Hi Friends and Family, I am partnering with Crossroads Church and raising money for Nepal 2018, a journey I feel very called to as it combines two of my life passions - hiking and loving people. I've trekked to the top of many mountains, but never in Nepal, and never for such a purpose as this. Check out what it is all about:

Hidden amongst the remote valleys of the world’s highest mountains live some of the most forgotten people groups on the planet. These diverse ethnic Tibetan communities have existed for generations having never heard the name of Jesus or the salvation that He offers. Crossroads is partnering with others in an effort to reach the unreached and love the unloved. Our mission is to exalt Christ at the top of the world by seeing His church established making the mighty Himalayas His.

As we embark on this journey, we call upon our friends and family for support. First we ask for your prayers. This trip is going to be stressful, heartbreaking and unlike anything we have ever experienced before. We know God has many things in store for us so we ask for your continued prayers. Second we need help financially. There are some pretty significant expenses involved in the logistics of a trip such as this, including airfare, ground transportation, helicopter chartering and more. In order to make this trip possible each member of the team is responsible for fundraising their our portion of the total trip costs. All donations go our team fund and are tax deductible. Every dollar helps get me closer to my goal and everything above and beyond my goal will go directly to assist other members of the team with their fundraising. Please help support my team and I, either through ongoing prayer or by giving financially.

I sincerely appreciate your support for this fundraiser and my goal. You can donate now and by hitting “Give Now” on the upper right.

You can give with any major credit card and it only takes 30 seconds. I appreciate it so very much.

Thank you for joining me!

Lauren :)

Lauren, Your Dad gave an excellent message on God's unchangeable attributes to our men's breakfast this morning and mentioned you were going to Nepal to share the Gospel with people who have never heard it. Also, that you needed prayer for your knee. I remember you used to baby sit our son's home when he and Lisa were on vacation with Brielle, Kylin and Jaden. I will keep you in my prayers and pr

Dear Family and Friends,

I leave TOMORROW for Nepal! YES, TOMORROW! We meet at the church at 6pm, then shuttle to LAX and our flight takes off at 11:40pm. We are flying through China (15 hours), and then to Kathmandu (5 hours). Please do pray for me, for my knees specifically, and for great relational connectivity with the team, with the staff in Kathmandu who will be training and guiding us, with the children and families in the villages we trek to, and for God's complete leadership and guidance over everything.

Pray that our bodies would respond well to the altitude, the food, the time change, and the weather! Here are the names of the Team to pray for: Me, Missy (my roommate on the trip, and leader - pray for her 2 little kids at home with her husband and family), Ernie (co-leader, has been before), Scott (Corona PD, leaving wife and older kids), Joe (also leaving 3 kids and his wife), Sebastian & Fenella (married and leaving 2 little kids at home).

I won't be able to provide updates on my trip, but Crossroads will keep up a blog while we are gone as they will be connecting with our Team Leader, Missy. The link will go up on a rotating web banner soon at crossroadschurch.com, but here is the link:

Thank you all,

Lauren

Dear Friends,

Hope you had a Happy Easter - what a beautiful weekend it was, He is Risen!

We are having our Nepal Team prayed over by the congregation in all the services at Crossroads this weekend, April 7 & 8 which is encouraging. We leave in 10 short days on April 12 - I cannot believe it!

Please pray specifically for safety and for spiritual protection. I am aware that Satan has his schemes and would love some proactive prayers!

My cousin Jeff, his friend Jacob and I hiked to the top of Mt. Wilson last weekend. It was a very loooong day with almost 16miles of hiking. I'm still sore today! My knees were giving me a hard time coming downhill, so I'd also really appreciate prayers for them. I am planning on getting steroid injections the day before we leave, in both knees to alleviate the pain.

I'd love to pray for you too as I embark on this journey - email me any prayer requests you have: laurenm@crossroadschurch.com

Thank you,

Lauren

Dear Family and Friends,

Only 19 days until April 12 when I head to Nepal! Praise God I have my dad who has been hiking with me the past 3 weekends in a row to help me get into hiking shape again!

* March 2 - We did Skyline in Corona (about 7.5 miles), and topped out a 3,000ft -- we beat the rain down the hill that day by minutes!

* March 9 - We did Bear Flatts trail in Mt. Baldy and hiked 6.5 miles round-trip, but gained 3,000ft one-way (from 4,200 to 7,200ft). It was a beautiful warm sunny day. When we got to the "Angel Wings" rock formation, we stopped and had lunch before heading back down. We were surprised at how warm it was and "no snow" on the side of the mountain we hiked. I was sore for 4 days after!

* March 18 - Cloudy Sunday afternoon hike up Silverado Motorway Trail to Bedford Peak (3900ft). This was about 6 miles and a 2000ft gain.

Next Saturday my cousin Jeff from San Diego is coming up to hike Mt. Wilson with me. I'm thankful for these times outside. It's not just to "get in hiking shape", though that is a great result, but also to spend time outside, being refreshed by God and nature. It's my happy place! And in these times, I am reflecting and preparing for the "big" hike to come through the Himalayas.

We have a team meeting this weekend to learn more about our purpose, and get more training. I just reviewed the children's stories we get to share. What a great plan that is coming together! Thank you for your continued prayers!

Thank you all for supporting me on my journey to Nepal. I just found out this week that we will be doing some VBS 1-2 day programs for the children in the Himalayas. We are not allowed to share the Gospel directly, but will be doing storytelling; and with kids we can share stories like The Good Shepherd and The Lost Sheep (they still have shepherds in this culture!), or other such stories to illustrate God's love and care. These villages will be at a pretty high altitude. Pray for these preparations, as well as for my physical training. Since being sick over the Holidays, I haven't gotten back into working out and hiking at 100%.Here's a great promise for the upcoming trip and for you as well:

There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear. For fear has to do with punishment, and whoever fears has not been perfected in love. 1 John 4:18ESV
