Changing worlds with photography.

Niños con Valor - Bolivia - Laura Crowell

I am very, very, incredibly excited to announce that I've been selected by Photographers Without Borders to go to Bolivia in February 2016, where I will be working with a grassroots organization called Ninos con Valor (“Children with Value”). Based in Cochabamba, Ninos con Valor is a small charity that focuses on helping children who have suffered due to abuse, neglect, abandonment, or the loss of parents. My role will be to document the day to day lives of the children and volunteers over a period of two weeks to help visually communicate their mission to the world.

I don't always feel like the most helpful person in the world, but I always want to help make a difference, and I know that I can help by witnessing, capturing, and helping to tell stories through images. As this project is entirely self-funded, your generous donations will provide me with the opportunity to support Ninos con Valor in raising awareness and showcasing their wonderful humanitarian efforts through the power of visual communication.

The current fundraiser goal is to reach $4000. Anything above and beyond the actual project costs will be donated directly to Ninos con Valor.

A little about me:
I am a photographer with an eclectic background in the fine arts; my BFA is in Drawing/Painting and much of my side studies are in Art Direction and Production Design for film. I have a heart for volunteering. I continually shoot for Creative Mornings Toronto; a volunteer-run breakfast speaker series geared for creative people that has chapters all over the world. I also help foster for Toronto Cat Rescue. Most of my days are spent working as a photographer/retoucher at a busy advertising agency, and much of my photographic work is in the food & beverage realm, but my true love has always been creative portraiture and story telling. I am so excited to see what I can bring to this project and sincerely hope to help make a difference with the skills I can offer!

Donors like you have helped photographers fundraise 100% of project-related costs since 2014!

The work of our volunteer photographers and videographers is integral to what we do. You can help us by supporting our photographers and videographers.

Each of our photographers/videographers is assigned a GroupRev fundraising page by PWB upon acceptance. These pages are a privilege, that are intended to make our programs accessible to all and enable our volunteer photographers/videographers to subsidize or cover their necessary project-related expenses. Specifically the following:

  • Airfare
  • Visa's
  • Vaccinations
  • Health Insurance
  • Travel Insurance

In order to ensure your donations are being spent responsibly, we do not cover anything beyond the items indicated above. The following expenses are the sole responsibility of the photographer/videographer:

  • Privately arranged travel
  • Equipment
  • Software
  • Extra Baggage Fees
  • Donation perks
  • Clothing
  • Postage/Postcard/Prints
  • Etc.

All donations for any PWB project must be made through these pages. PWB is not responsible for any donations made outside of these pages.

Photographers Without Borders® (PWB) envisions a world where we all put ourselves in each others' shoes and work together. Our mission is to inform and inspire positive change by visually communicating the ways that grassroots initiatives are addressing problems in their communities. PWB is registered as a charity in the United States with 501(c)(3) status and is registered as a not-for-profit organization in Canada. All donations are calculated in US Dollars and are tax-deductible for Americans and Canadians with US income.

Any overage amounts raised on GroupRev will be donated with the photographers direction, 100% to the Organization, 100% to PWB or split 50/50, between the photographer's/videographer's assigned cause and PWB, which is also a volunteer-run organization.

Please Note: All funds are donated in US dollars.

Laura. The trip proposed sounds adventurous and exciting. It promises to change your life in more ways than one. We hope that this small amount helps in any way it can. When I started my new job, I took a substantial pay cut - and our young family is not as flush as we once were. We cannot think of a better friend, of a better Canadian to go and help those in need in Bolivia. You truly embo
