"I think I've found a way to save a million girls' lives"

Noam Angrist, Young 1ove, Botswana

You are about to make a highly leveraged donation.

With your support, we create  images that Young 1ove uses to raise funds to continue their life saving work.

Neville  Jones

Young 1ove has uncovered a simple 1-hour "sugar daddy" awareness class proven to reduce pregnancy -- an objective proxy for unprotected sex and HIV transmission - by 28% in just one year. Check out the evidence here.  The founder of Young 1ove is 24 year old, Fullbright and Rhodes Scholar, Noam Angrist.  Watch his inspiring presentation and Q&A here.

Why does Young 1ove deserve our support?  Because it works.

Earlier programs, driven by passionate, idealistic missions from the west mis-understood the cultural landscape of Botswana.  You can read academic analyses of such well-intentioned failures here and here.

Conversely, Young 1ove is a research-driven education program that harnesses simple truths and routinely measures results.  You can read the latest results here.

Importantly, Young 1ove is not inventing anything new.  They are delivering in Botswana a program that was shown to be highly effective in Kenya ten years earlier.  The paper on those results is here.

For these reasons, and more, I have decided to volunteer for PWB and Young 1ove for a month, starting in September.

I have been lucky enough to travel to Botswana every year or so since 2008.  I have seen first hand both the beauty of the land and its people and the devasting effect of HIV/AIDS.  Sadly, the country was slow to adopt strategic measures to restrict the spread of HIV and some of those early measures were counter-productive.

I am very optimistic about Young 1ove.  It leverages a strategy that is demonstrably effective in the African context.  The program diligently measures efficacy and it is led by intelligent, clear-eyed, committed and youthful leaders.

So, we just need a little help from you to defray the costs of this project.

Every year, our photographers and videographers donate hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of their time to document the work of grassroots initiatives that are making a real change in this world where it is most needed. By capturing, honouring and witnessing humanity at its best, we are not only inspiring many, but we are forging new narratives of what is and what is possible.

You can help by supporting our photographers and videographers (See the side bar to the right to see fundraisers for our most recent recruits).

Each of our official photographers/videographers is assigned a GroupRev fundraising page by PWB upon acceptance. These pages are a privilege we offer that are intended to make our programs accessible to all and enable our volunteer photographers/videographers to subsidize or cover these necessary project-related expenses:

  • Airfare
  • Visa's
  • Vaccinations
  • Health Insurance
  • Travel Insurance

The following expenses are the sole responsibility of the photographer/videographer:

  • Privately arranged travel
  • Equipment & Equipment Insurance
  • Software
  • Extra Baggage Fees
  • Donation perks
  • Clothing
  • Postage/Postcard/Prints
  • Etc.

Photographers Without Borders® (PWB) envisions a world where we all put ourselves in each others' shoes and work together. Our mission is to inform and inspire positive change by visually communicating the ways that grassroots initiatives are addressing problems in their communities. PWB is registered as a charity in the United States with 501(c)(3) status and is registered as a not-for-profit organization in Canada. All donations are calculated in US Dollars and are tax-deductible for Americans and Canadians with US income.

PWB is not responsible for any donations made outside of these pages.

Any overage amounts raised on GroupRev will be donated with the photographers direction, 100% to the Organization, 100% to PWB or split 50/50, between the photographer's/videographer's assigned cause and PWB, which is also a volunteer-run organization.
