I feel so blessed to work as a photographer for Photographers Without Borders (PWB) to help NGOs around the globe. It is an incredibly rewarding experience to give back and learn so much of the social causes and needs of others. Being able to tell a story through the lens is an extraordinary way to share the important message that the NGO wants to send.
I will be working with the NGO called Ocean Sole. This NGO's goals include: up-cycle their own waste, enable Kenya conservation entrepreneurs, collaborate with global artist and designers to create more art and products to bring more awareness to the plight of the oceans and the increasing debris problem impacting both human and marine life, continue to invest in new staff welfare, build a new production facility at the Kenya coast and provide jobs.
As the PWB photographer, I will be fortunate to be visiting the Ocean Sole project sites in Kenya to capture a masterpiece being made, the carvers at work and the process of how the pieces are made. I will also be invited to several workshops. The images I produce will be used for the organization's new website, newsletters, blogs and stories, as well as social media platforms, and marketing materials/prints.
I have been privileged to shoot through the eyes of a lens for over 6 years. My efforts have brought joy to those that were able to have access to the photos that were captured. I believe that photography has the ability to tell a story with one single picture. That message can spread the word around the world and bring awareness to issues that might otherwise go unnoticed. Photography is a powerful tool and one that can be used to help tell the story of struggling communities that need to get help and have their message heard. It is an honor to volunteer for the NGO in Mombasa, Kenya and put my experience to good use in a fulfilling and rewarding way. My goal will be to accomplish the message that this NGO is aiming to achieve with the social issues that they face through my images. The support of such efforts is extremely welcome and super appreciated!
Donors like you have helped photographers fundraise 100% of project-related costs since 2014!
Every year, PWB photographers and videographers donate hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of their time to document the work of grassroots initiatives that are making a real change in this world where it is most needed. By capturing, honouring and witnessing humanity at its best, we are not only inspiring many, but we are forging new narratives of what is and what is possible.
You can help by supporting our photographers and videographers (See the side bar to the right to see fundraisers for our most recent recruits).
Each of our official photographers/videographers is assigned a GroupRev fundraising page by PWB upon acceptance. These pages are a privilege we offer that are intended to make our programs accessible to all and enable our volunteer photographers/videographers to raise their program fees and subsidize or cover these necessary project-related expenses:
- Airfare
- Visa's
- Vaccinations
- Health Insurance
- Travel Insurance
The following expenses are the sole responsibility of the photographer/videographer:
- Privately arranged travel / Equipment & Equipment Insurance / Software / Extra Baggage Fees / Donation perks / Clothing / Postage/Postcard / Prints / Etc.
Photographers Without BordersĀ® (PWB) envisions a world where we all put ourselves in each others' shoes and work together. Any overage amounts raised on GroupRev will be donated with the photographers direction, 100% to the Organization, 100% to PWB or split 50/50, between the photographer's/videographer's assigned cause and PWB, which is also a volunteer-run organization.
