What We're Doing - Who We're Helping
Hi I’m Alex, a photographer & printmaker from Los Angeles! In December 2018, I will be documenting the work of the Chain Collaborative and the Now Africa Initiative in the Kanugu district of Uganda. The vision of this NGO is to create viable, sustainable and competitive economic development in rural Uganda. As a social enterprise, this agricultural organization plans to play a catalytic role in building a sustainable, modern, rural-based economy linked to education, tourism, value chain processing and marketing in agriculture, specifically coffee and soybeans.
As someone who recently graduated with a degree in Social Entrepreneurship from Antioch University, I have a passion for companies who adopt a social enterprise into their business model. I hope by documenting these two NGOs and their affect on the rural Ugandan community I will be able to spread the benefit of adopting a social cause and encourage more companies to make a difference with their role in our world.
How You Can Help - What You Get in Return
I’m pouring every ounce of energy into this campaign, but I can’t make this possible without supporters like you. Any financial contribution you can make will be greatly appreciated. No amount is too small, and even the small act of skipping a night out or forgoing a cup of coffee makes a huge difference.
Because a printmaker, I’m fortunate enough to have a printer capable of large format printing. As a token of my gratitude:
- Contributions of $50 or more will receive a pack of 5 postcards from Uganda
- Contributions of $100 or more will receive an 11x14 Uganda print (plus post cards)
- Contributions of $250 or more will receive any 24x30 print from my collection (www.alexcaveprintingco.com) as well as an 11x14 print from Uganda and 5 postcards.
Even if you can’t afford to contribute, a post on social media makes a huge difference.

About the Photographer
Growing up in San Diego, California, my photographic journey began at the skate park. Every month, I’d scrape together all the allowance money I could find and rush to the grocery store to pick up the latest Thrasher magazine. My mom picked up on this and one day took me to see a retrospective of Dorthea Lange’s work at the Getty Center museum. That was the moment I knew I’d be a photographer.
Since then I’ve crossed the globe in search of landscapes to discover and stories to document. I’ve photographed deported US veterans in Tijuana, indigenous communities in Ecuador, glaciers in the Arctic, and childhood poverty in Bolivia. I’m hoping that Photographers Without Borders will be the next step in my career.
About Photographers Without Borders
Every year, our photographers and videographers donate hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of their time to document the work of grassroots initiatives that are making a real change in this world where it is most needed. By capturing, honouring and witnessing humanity at its best, we are not only inspiring many, but we are forging new narratives of what is and what is possible.
You can help by supporting our photographers and videographers (See the side bar to the right to see fundraisers for our most recent recruits).
Each of our official photographers/videographers is assigned a GroupRev fundraising page by PWB upon acceptance.
