Telling the stories of sustainable communities in El Salvador
In 2014 I joined the first class of Photographers Without Borders (PWB) Associates with an assignment in Ecuador. I so thoroughly enjoyed the experience that I decided to return again this year to help PWB document sustainable projects in El Salvador.
As a PWB Associate, I will be donating thousands of dollars worth of my time to document the work of my Community Partner (a local NGO in El Salvador) that is making real change in the country. This organization was established in 1980 with a mission to contribute to the sustainability of El Salvador and the world through the promotion and implementation of socio-economic programs. The organization's main activities include bicycle promotion, training in climate change, agro-ecology, environmental education for high school students and training for people with disabilities.
I will be capturing stories of bicycle training and promotion, high school environmental activities, agro-ecological production and urban food production. My work will be used for reports, awareness building and showcasing the organization's work to partner NGOs.
As a volunteer, I have a lot of expenses to cover for this project and do not have the means to pay for these on my own. Funds I raise here and through other fundraisers will go to cover the following:
- Assignment Cost
- Emergency Medical & Travel Insurance
These expenses are solely my responsibility:
- Privately-arranged travel / Equipment & equipment insurance / Software / Extra baggage fees / Donation perks / Clothing / Postage / Postcard / Prints / Etc.
As you can see, traveling on assignment is a costly undertaking but worth the effort when the end product can impact the lives of so many people through the power of photography. I am appealing to you, my long time friends, family and supporters, to help me reach my fundraising goal so I can embark on this assignment later this year. Anything you can contribute will be greatly appreciated and will make a world of difference to the communities we will be helping.
For contributions of $50 or more, I will be offering a 4 x 6 signed print of any of my travel images or images taken during the project. For $100 or more, you will receive a 6 x 9 print. And for $200 or more you will receive an 8 x 12 print. These prints will be printed on high quality photo paper from my vendor, signed and then shipped to you as a thank you for your support.
I sincerely appreciate your involvement in this latest endeavor that would not be possible without your support. I also appreciate the trust and belief you have in me to take on this assignment and deliver a quality work product for the community partner. I have gained an incredible amount of experience the last five years since my first PWB assignment and I cannot wait to put my skills to the test for this new challenge.
