Changing worlds with photography.

Ripple Africa, Malawi - Photographer Tara Rice

Empowering and involving communities in sustainable change is critical to real growth.

With your support, I look forward to working with Ripple Africa to create imagery to help their story reach the eyes and hearts of others.

The Project: Later this year I will be visiting Ripple Africa in the Nhakata Bay District of  Malawi for two weeks, in order to work with this organization documenting their community projects and creating photography to help grow and support their work.

Your Donation: Photographers Without Borders is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, and as such all donations are tax-deductible as charitable contributions. Any amount you can spare will help me to achieve this project.

At different levels of donation, I am offering prints of images taken during the project as a way for you to feel the direct contribution your donation has made to this project. All prints will be signed open editions:

$50 - Signed 5" x 7" (Postcard Size) Inkjet Print (Open Edition)

$100 - Signed 8" x 10" Inkjet Print (Open Edition)

$250 - Signed 20" x 24" Inkjet Print (Open Edition)

$1000 - Signed 30" x 40" Inkjet Print + Special Editioned gift from my archived work

The Organization:

RIPPLE Africa’s projects are based around the rural village of Mwaya in the Nkhata Bay District of Malawi. The charity’s overriding aim is to empower communities so they themselves can achieve a sustainable future – we strongly believe that it is the local people who are the solution to many of the challenges they face. We do many things in a small area, as many different issues are closely linked. Everything RIPPLE Africa does is in response to the local communities’ needs. By enabling the local communities, great things can happen and they are all life changing.

We are all about empowering communities in the Nkhata Bay District in Malawi to achieve a sustainable future by providing a hand UP, not a hand out.

Our Core Values

  • Long term commitment to local communities.
  • Sustainable and simple community led projects.
  • We are open and honest about our successes and failures.
  • How We Do It
  • We run many projects in a small area, working closely with the local communities, Chiefs, and District government departments, empowering local communi es to be the solu on.
  • We have 150 Malawian staff  and 2,000 local Malawians working on our projects.
  • We use simple, low tech and innovative solutions.
  • What We Do
  • We run eight pre-schools, supportive primary schools, and we have built a secondary school.
  • We help communities to conserve the fish and forests.
  • We have helped communities to plant over four million trees.
  • We are working with 40,000 households to provide a fuel-efficient cookstove, saving 80,000 bundles of wood per week.
  • We have built a local health dispensary and have undertaken other building projects at other local health centers and hospitals.
  • Every year, our photographers and videographers donate hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of their time to document the work of grassroots initiatives that are making a real change in this world where it is most needed. By capturing, honouring and witnessing humanity at its best, we are not only inspiring many, but we are forging new narratives of what is and what is possible.

You can help by supporting our photographers and videographers (See the side bar to the right to see fundraisers for our most recent recruits).

Each of our official photographers/videographers is assigned a GroupRev fundraising page by PWB upon acceptance. These pages are a privilege we offer that are intended to make our programs accessible to all and enable our volunteer photographers/videographers to raise their program fees and subsidize or cover these necessary project-related expenses:

    • Airfare
    • Visa's
    • Vaccinations
    • Health Insurance
    • Travel Insurance

The following expenses are the sole responsibility of the photographer/videographer:

    • Privately arranged travel / Equipment & Equipment Insurance / Software / Extra Baggage Fees / Donation perks / Clothing / Postage/Postcard / Prints / Etc.

Photographers Without Borders® (PWB) envisions a world where we all put ourselves in each others' shoes and work together. Our mission is to inform and inspire positive change by visually communicating the ways that grassroots initiatives are addressing problems in their communities. PWB is registered as a charity in the United States with 501(c)(3) status and is registered as a not-for-profit organization in Canada. All donations are calculated in US Dollars and are tax-deductible for Americans and Canadians with US income.

PWB is not responsible for any donations made outside of these pages.

Any overage amounts raised on GroupRev will be donated with the photographers direction, 100% to the Organization, 100% to PWB or split 50/50, between the photographer's/videographer's assigned cause and PWB, which is also a volunteer-run organization.
