Here we roll again!  The 50 Mile Ride, or Rwanda Ride as it is commonly called, is a charity event that many of you know I’ve been participating in for the last 10 years. This is year 11 and our goal is to reach the $1 million mark with this year’s event.

The 50 Mile Ride event supports Team Africa Rising as they continue to develop and inspire a new generation of Rwandans to rise above their past. This year we will also support Qhubeka in their efforts to provide independence and livelihood to families in developing nations, through the power of bicycles.

The event started in 2006 as a group ride for the founder’s 50th birthday and quickly grew into one of Southern California’s most popular mountain biking events. Last year, there were 1292 riders - and the event has raised over $860,000 for Rwanda so far. If you’re a mountain biker and would like to participate, please visit for more details. There are 10 and 25 mile options as well.

Would you please “sponsor” me and help us reach our financial goals? Your donation is tax deductible, and even a small donation goes a long way. The bikes we send cost $189 each, so it doesn't take much to really help us out.

You can donate now by hitting the “Give Now” button below or on the upper right.

You can give with any major credit card and it only takes 30 seconds. I appreciate it so very much.

Thank you for joining me!

Dear Friends and Family,

The Ride for Rwanda on Saturday April 29th was another resounding success, and I wanted to thank each of my "sponsors" for your generosity!

We had major Santa Ana winds Friday night into early Saturday morning and I believe the wind kept some riders from coming out. It was REALLY windy!  We'd hoped to reach 1500 participants this year. Our final numbers were 1155 riders and over $144,000 in money raised for our charities.  It was our best fundraising amount to date, and it put us over our cumulative goal of $1 million raised so far.  So two out of three ain't bad!  We also had 160+ volunteers that helped make the day run smoothly.

My friends and family (that means you!) donated $1500 on my behalf, which made our group the largest "individual" contributor and we received some special recognition for that at the event.  So thank you again for making a difference!

I always enjoy riding in this event, and even though some years I've struggled with cramps and fatigue, it's always satisfying to just finish.  This year I was a trail ambassador again, stopping and helping folks that needed a hand.  It's such a positive day with great people doing what they love, and I'm so happy to be a small part of it.

Thank you again for your generosity and support.  I truly appreciate it and look forward to what next year brings!

Take care,

- John

Wow!  Thanks to donors like yourself, I'm already almost half way to my $1500 goal.  Thank you so much for your generosity!  Please help spread the word and forward my link to anyone you know that may also be interested in contributing.

I'll be sure to post an update after the ride to all of you so you'll know how the event does this year.  We're hoping to hit the cumulative mark of $1 million raised this year.

Thank you again for your support!
