Dear family and friends,

I’m writing to ask for your support and to offer an opportunity to partner in a faith adventure.

This year a few friends showed me the joy of serving others, just as my family was blessed with your many kind thoughts, prayers, and acts of generosity. Following the examples set by a few men God put in my life, I dipped my toe into service at a couple of local Christian ministries with my four children. By offering just a few hours of our time, we felt the immense satisfaction of serving others while being clearly reminded of all that is good in our lives.

On January 21, I’ll be jumping in. I’m joining a small group of men from my home church here in Irvine, Mariners Church, on a nine-day journey to Haiti. A joint effort between Mariners Church and the local Haitian Church of God by Faith provides this opportunity to serve directly where the need is so great. The 2010 earthquake in Haiti left the country devastated and was the catalyst for this partnership, which has evolved from disaster relief to sustainability.

Trip objectives: As always, our intention is to build relationships with our Haitian partners and provide support while seeking ways to foster long-term, sustainable solutions. We will continue working on construction and maintenance projects at the orphanage Glory Glory Center. In addition, we’ll provide pastoral leadership development, working to support and strengthen the church through its leaders who share the message of Jesus Christ with and minister to over 8,000 people in this impoverished country.

About the orphanage, Glory Glory Center: “In January 2010, the Church of God by Faith’s home church in Carrefour was at the epicenter of the earthquake that devastated the country. In the month that followed, Pastor Joseph, his son Samuel, and their congregation took responsibility for 52 local children orphaned in the quake. Today, these 52 kids live at the Glory Glory Center…with the help of several house moms. The Glory Glory Center is a 2.5-acre compound consisting of four dorms, a small kitchen and storage room, three chicken coops, and a medical clinic which doubles as church on Sunday. Pastor Samuel has a big vision for Haiti…and it starts with the youth! Recognizing that true change can only come from within, Pastor Samuel wants to create opportunities for Haiti’s young people to learn and to grow to become effective agents of change—leaders who think hopefully and creatively about generosity as well as prosperity…Our goal is not to foster dependency but to create opportunity.” (www.haitiministrymarinerschurch.com)

I have no doubt this nine-day trip will be eye opening, humbling, and perhaps challenging in ways I won’t anticipate. Please keep our team in your prayers, particularly during our time in Haiti from January 21-30.

And if you would join this outreach effort by providing financially to defray our expenses and to support the local Haitian ministries, thank you for that as well. I would like to raise more than the $2,400 cost of travel, transportation and food in order to extend support beyond my limited time in Haiti. You can give directly on this page, or if you would like to pay by check, please make it out to "Mariners Church" and put "Haiti-Brad Baxter" on the memo line, and mail it to Attn: Paul Han, 5001 Newport Coast Drive, Irvine, CA 92603.

Thanks for your time. I look forward to sharing updates with you as the trip unfolds.

In gratitude,

Brad
