The Self-Advocacy Association of New York State, Inc. (SANYS) is a not-for profit, grassroots organization run by and for people with developmental disabilities. Our goal is to help create a person-centered and person-directed system of supports. To further this goal, the SANYS executive board supports self-advocates and self-advocacy groups regionally and statewide. SANYS encourages them to speak for themselves individually and collectively.
The Long Island Region has the largest one day self-advocacy conference in the state hosting nearly 550 individiduals with disabilities, their families and allies. This year our region will need to raise funds in order to continue to support a conference of this size. If we do not raise funds for our 2017 event we will be forced to reduce the number attendees. This would also cause a significant rise in the cost of attendance. Many people with disabilities, their families and supporters would not be able to attend this event which provides valuable education, resources and networking opportunities for the community of people with disabilities.
Please help us meet our fundraising goals as well as support the needs of The Autism Community Walk, Inc. which will strive to to address the many unmet needs of people living with Autism and related disabilities and their families. We would also appreciate the support through joining our team during the walk which will take place in the Belmont Lake State Park on October 16th. Registration starts at 9 a.m and the walk begins at 11 a.m.
Thank You SANYS Long Island Region
