Friends, I am once again participating in the Saving the Elephants 10K - my first since the pandemic - to raise money to help protect the elephants of the Zambezi Valley. The 10k follows the circumference of Central Park, and I have until Dec. 31st to meet my fundraising goal.
Wildlife in Zimbabwe and elephants in particular are close to my heart. When my mother and I went on safari in the Zambezi valley in 1997, elephants were thriving, while rhinos were critically endangered. But last year, African Savanna Elephants were listed as Endangered on the IUCN Red List, as over 60% of the population is estimated to have been lost during my own lifetime. The good news is that ZEF has been highly successful in its multi-pronged efforts to protect elephants! Poaching is down (hooray!) but habitat destruction is a major challenge. It’s a small non-profit that’s having strong results.
Your help impacts not only elephants, but all the animals and even benefits local villagers who live in the Zambezi valley.
