During what should have been the happiest moments of my life I was just trying to hold on. I either would go through the day in a deeper mood than the "baby blues" or I was (am) terrified to fall asleep because the nights are the worst. If it weren't for Garner, my mom and dad, sisters, my aunt and cousins, I don't know what I would have done. The stigma of PPD isn't the only tough thing to get past. The hoops and hurdles that I am STILL trying to go through to get help make me give up most days. My beautiful daughter and loving boyfriend get me to crack a smile every day, and during those tough nights is what would bring me back. The group put on by Good Sam has been a lifeline during a time where I was minutes away from blowing out my vocal cords from screaming so loud. I can't even begin to describe what was going through my mind, and honestly what still is. I have my good days and I have my bad ones, but I am lucky enough to have persistent family and friends that make sure I am not suffering. For them, I am forever grateful. This is a topic that we need to start talking about. We need to start making getting help easier. Join me by helping out a cause that makes getting help a little bit more attainable. And if you want to talk about it don't be afraid to reach out to me. You don't need to suffer in silence!

This is our story and why we need your help.

My sister Lisa Mary suffered from pregnancy and postpartum depression during and after the birth of my niece. During her struggle with this illness, I saw first hand the deep emotional pain and suffering that postpartum depression causes moms and their loved ones. I also witnessed the terrible stigma this illness brings upon moms and the suffering in silence they feel forced to endure.

It was an experience that I didn’t want other moms, dads and families to go through.

So, I decided that I would make a pact – a pact with my sister and my niece too – a promise to break the silence of postpartum depression, celebrate our courageous mothers and fathers, and build sounds of hope for all those families who may be suffering.

That’s how the  Sounds of Silence, Friends of the Postpartum Resource Center of New York was born.

The Sounds of Silence 5K/10K Run (Walk, Stroller-walk with Kid's Fun Run) in Memory and Celebration of Lisa Mary Reilly is an annual event now in its twelfth year. The goal of this event is to raise awareness for pregnancy and postpartum depression/anxiety and to raise funds for the essential programs and services of the Postpartum Resource Center of New York.

A special focus of this event is supporting the Lisa Mary Reilly Visioning Educational Series, which is part of Project 62™- Building and Strengthening Perinatal Mental Wellness Parent Support Networks and Safety Nets in all sixty-two New York State counties.

Now you can be part of this important cause.
