2017 will be my 9th TOUR DE FORCE bicycle ride. From the first ride in 2009, that very first pedal stroke, I knew I was hooked on this bicycle ride. Within the first mile, I called my wife to tell her how wonderful this ride was going to be. The sidewalks were full of fans cheering us on, waving flags and being saluted; making it a very emotional start to something I knew I wanted to be part of.
I always set my fundraising goal high knowing that it is the least I can do for the men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice and died in the line of duty. When I ride, I ride for all those heroes and the families left behind. I have been given the honor and privilege to make 6 presentations of TOUR DE FORCE awards to families of fallen officers. Each presentation was an emotional and gratifying feeling.
The friendships I have made while riding in the TOUR DE FORCE are everlasting and I look forward each year to renew those friendships and make many more. To finish this bike ride each year, and look at the finish line and see my family there to support and cheer me along with the other bike riders, is in itself a wonderful feeling that the individuals I ride for can’t have.
