The 2019 Tour de Force N.Y. will mark my 8th year participating in the charity event. Sadly it is also my fourth year riding for a fellow Phoenix Police Officer whose life was tragically taken in the line of duty. On March 21st, 2019, Officer P. Rutherford succumbed to his injuries after being struck by an automobile while responding to a violent felony in progress. Officer Rutherford was a 22 year veteran of the Phoenix Police Department and was assigned to the patrol division in the Maryvale neighborhood.
On September 5th, 2019 I will join 300 police officers from around the country to ride in honor and support the families of police officers killed in the line of duty. The 2019 Tour de Force will be an approximate 300 mile bicycle ride from New York, N.Y. to Boston Ma. and serves as a reminder of the sacrifices made on 9/11 and beyond.
The Tour de Force N.Y. is a 501c3 charitable organization that was founded in 2002 as a memorial bicycle ride to honor the victims of 9/11 and remember police officers killed in the line of duty. The organization has evolved into a nationally recognized charity that supports the families of police officers killed in the line of duty, nationwide.
Officer Rutherford paid the ultimate sacrifice protecting the citizens of the City of Phoenix on March 21st, 2019. Officer Rutherford did so answering his last call while investigating a traffic accident then leaving that scene in order to assist with a violent felony in progress.
