Hello friends and concerned citizens everywhere.  I was recently introduced to Beth Gegner and the passionate work she is doing in our community to raise awareness of the fact that human trafficking is a serious and growing problem in our very own community. YES!! That means right here in Orange County and Newport Beach.

Human trafficking is the fasted growing illegal enterprise in the world second only to drug trafficking, an surpassing it in some areas like Los Angeles.  An estimated 300,000 US kids are at risk or become victims right here in America. The average age is 14 years old and only 1% ever escape.  The Freedom Ride Project was created to stop this atrocity before it starts by raising awareness and preventing it.

In September 2016 I was honored to be part of a team of dedicated cyclists who rode 1,500 miles from Bend, Oregon to Newport Beach to spread the word and meet with concerned citizens along the way.  We were accompanied by Deputy Chief David McGill of the Newport Beach Police Department who: engaged with Police Chiefs along the way.

The Freedom Ride 2016 has already had a large impact on our community.  Here are some examples:

The Newport Beach Police Department and the Californian Peace Officers' Association have partnered with the Freedom Ride Project, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, to combat human trafficking in Orange County an collaborate with law enforce throughout the country.  As a result of the The Freedom Ride 2016, Chief Lewis of the Newport Beach Department has designated a full-time Police Officer to combat human trafficking in Orange County.

In addition, District Superintendent Dr. Navarro, has launched human trafficking education to 22,000 kids and their parent in the Newport Mesa School District. Just last week a student a Corona del Mar High School created a human trafficking club and had 90 student sign up. Project, in order to work with and spread the word.

YES!! our own kids at the high school and middle school level need to be made aware of the tactics used by these predators.

For my part, I have taken on the responsibility of raising $5,000 for the cause.  I would appreciate your financial support to help us continue raising awareness about human trafficking and to end this atrocity.  Please remember that this will directly help our children in our own community.
